Zante Town is the capital city of the island of Zante found on the east coast. Within the town are the main shopping areas, as well as the primary harbour where ferry’s from the mainland arrive and depart. Also located in Zante Town is a prominent piazza which receives plenty of tourist activity due to the high level numbers of eateries and street merchants that the area enjoys.
Although the original Venetian architecture of Zante Town was completely destroyed by a series of earthquakes in 1953, it was rebuilt completely and now bears a stunning resemblance to the San Marco square in Venice making it an essential visit.
Zante Town is also the location of the best bar and pub scene with the most sartorial bars found within the town limits. There are also several village wineries that serve local drinks of metaxa brandy and Ouzo, but beware because the brandies are much stronger than most people are accustomed to.
There is a very low serious crime rate in Zante Town making it an ideal place to stay with a wide range of accommodation that includes houses, apartments, and villas. However, petty crime is a problem that unfortunately tourists are usually the victims of.
